Our home is in Ammanford in south west Wales, a post industrial community where Anthracite coal (Black Gold) fueled the local economy. Back in 2003 the last of the collieries closed and with it went our town’s purpose. Coaltown’s ambition was to bring a new industry to our home, a new Black Gold, a new purpose. In 2018 we achieved just that and our town is producing again.

This time it’s a new Black Gold—Coffee.

We are a B-corp specialty coffee roastery with a focus on sustainable and transparent trade with small farms from across the coffee growing regions of the world, and we aim to uphold quality at every stage of our production. We are driven by remaining ethical, and by our desire to roast delicious coffee that's full of personality.

Unlocking the unique flavours within the world's finest coffee begins in the roaster. by Hand-roasting in small batches, our Head of coffee is able to judge the timing and temperature to perfection, delicately drawing out the complex flavour notes from raw green beans. We carefully study how the beans turn from green through to straw yellow and then finally to rich, sumputuous brown, ready to be brewed into the perfect cup.
